Thanks for One Year of Great Instant Games!

It’s hard to believe that Instant Games for Messenger/Facebook launched only a year ago. We wanted to say thank you to you, our devs, for creating awesome gaming experiences that our users have really enjoyed. In the past year we’ve introduced over 70 games together, and launched hundreds of millions of game sessions.

With your input we added over 50 new features and continue to learn what types of services and options will allow you to give players the best instant gaming experience possible. Most recently, we announced Livestreaming, as well as testing of gameplay during live video chats, which we think is a really exciting feature for you! We continue to expand our Ads and IAP monetization tests as well as making it easier to submit games for approval so they can get in the hands of your fans.

In addition to these features, we’re continuing to work on some of the ideas below, many of which we heard as requests from you directly:

  • Context Filter – We improved the contact picker algorithm so that when users are challenging friends, the most likely options are shown based on filters you control.
  • Updated ranking algorithm to help drive more awareness for your games
  • Landscape mode – this will open up more types of games on the platform
  • Challenge link – This link will be created by the player and allow them to post it to friends and jump right into a game
  • Bug Report Flow – We are working to make it easier for your players to report game bugs to you. These would be available directly on your developer dashboard.

We’ve also seen some awesome implementation of the platform, with unique uses of Instant Game’s SDK functionalities. EverWing extends gameplay by allowing users to send their fairies out on missions with a quick tap in a Messenger thread. Basketball FRVR created an entire storyline that accompanies their single player gameplay. These types of new engagement points can really help with conversion and engagement and we’re sure you will come up with other creative ways to use this exclusive functionality.

Finally, we asked a few of you to send us some fun stats about the games you’ve created and put together an animation about it. Without your hard work, none of this would be possible. We can’t wait to see what year two brings!
